Calling All Young Playwrights: Glee’s Darren Criss Wants to Help Make You Famous!
Ready for your fifteen minutes of fame and a chance to snag a moment – on video – in front of one of your favorite Glee stars in the process? Let newly-crowned Broadway big-shot Darren Criss (Blaine) be your guide!
Darren has signed on as the spokesperson for the Los Angeles Festival of New American Musicals’ 2012 initiative “Show Search,” which seeks to find the NEXT generation of composers set to take the Great White Way by storm.
Do we have your attention? Grab your pen and paper – errrr, video recorders…
High school and college-age musical theatre writers are asked to submit a ten-minute original musical by April 1 via YouTube. All videos will be judged by a panel of pros in the field based on originality, musicality and storytelling, and narrowed down into top ten lists in two age groups, 13-18 and 18-25. A public vote on the selected 10 will coincide with three finalists being selected by a “celebrity jury.”
What do you get if you WIN? Only a theatre geek’s dream come true!
Not only will all finalists be given the opportunity to have their musical performed in a live concert in LA as part of the fest’s New Musical Staged Reading Series, but they’ll also get a chance to be mentored by a Broadway composer! (Yes, that leaves Darren outta the mix, but hey – we’re talkin’ big leagues, here!)
Feelin’ inspired?? More specifics and information are available at the fest’s website, www.lafestival.org. And be sure to check out Darren’s fantastic introduction to the project in this video! Good luck!
