What Crimes Is American Idol 2012’s Jermaine Jones Accused Of?
The spotlight on Jermaine Jones got a little too bright when news surfaced that the crooner has multiple warrants out for his arrest. Since he had kept this information a secret from American Idol producers, they decided to give him the boot. So just what exactly did Jermaine do to get himself in this mess in the first place?
According to The Smoking Gun, the apparently not-so-Gentle Giant has been arrested various times over the years. His record includes a narcotics bust in 2006, an open container violation in 2008, and three instances of providing the police with a fake name — once in 2009 and twice in 2011 — when he had other run-ins with the law. TMZ reports that in one of the incidents, he had been part of a fight at a Howard Johnson Hotel. Allegedly, Jermaine tried to conceal his identity because he was hoping to avoid getting nabbed for his outstanding warrants. A lot of good that did him.
Idol sources told TMZ that they decided to do more digging after they began to suspect he was lying about his supposedly estranged father. When they came across his rap sheet, they decided to let him go. Not only had he been dishonest about his past, it also counted against him that he had previously been “very aggressive” with a staff member during a disagreement about his wardrobe, the insiders say.
Jermaine announced the news on Twitter last night, writing, “Awww I will no longer b [sic] on the show.” His account was deleted shorty after.
We’re still haven’t gotten the official version of the story from Idol, and it looks like we’ll have to wait till tonight’s episode. In the meantime, is anyone else hoping they’ll bring Jennifer Hirsh back?
