Castle’s Stana Katic and Jon Huertas Honored With Prism Award for Tackling PTSD in “Kill Shot”
Time to hop on Twitter and congratulate Castle co-stars Stana Katic and Jon Huertas for winning the 16th annual Prism Award for Performance in a Drama Episode for Season 4, Episode 9: "Kill Shot."
The Prism Awards were created in 1997 to honor the accurate depiction of substance abuse and mental illness across all media, including film, television, and music.
The official press release for the awards states that Stana's performance as Detective Kate Beckett — who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after being shot by a sniper — "imparts an emotional depiction of a woman with the strength and will to move on with the help of her support system."
Jon's character, Detective Javier Esposito, plays a pivotal role in the episode, using his knowledge as a former member of the U.S. Special Forces to help Beckett overcome her condition through "unorthodox, yet effective" methods.
What makes the episode even more poignant is that Jon served in the U.S. military for eight years, an experience that undoubtedly gave his performance a more organic, emotional depth.
Jon and Stana will receive their Prism Award on April 19, 2012 in Beverly Hills, Calif. Click here for more information and for a full list of this year's nominees.
