George Clooney Arrested in Washington, Taken Away in Secret Service Van (PHOTO)
Actor George Clooney and his father, Nick, were arrested earlier this morning (March 16) in Washington, D.C., while protesting outside the Sudanese Embassy, the Associated Press reports.
Clooney has been in the political spotlight for the past few weeks, urging Congress to take action against Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir, who he believes is causing a humanitarian crisis by blocking food and aid from entering the country along the border with South Sudan.
Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia and NAACP President Ben Jealous were arrested along with Clooney. All were cuffed and placed in a Secret Service van after being warned multiple times not to cross a police line.
"This is for the government in Khartoum to stop randomly killing its own innocent men, women and children. Stop raping them and stop starving them. That's all we ask," the 50-year-old actor said just before police took the men away.
