Jermaine Jones Didn’t Know His American Idol Elimination Would Be Filmed
Viewers weren't the only ones surprised when American Idol Season 11 contestant Jermaine Jones (aka the Gentle Giant) was eliminated from the competition this past Wednesday (March 14). The 25-year-old singer told People magazine he was in the dark until co-executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick sat him down to discuss the outstanding warrants for his arrest.
"I did not know any of it. I was actually confused. I didn't know what was going on," he said about the on-camera confrontation, which aired during the show's March 14 episode. "And I walked in and there were all these lights and cameras. I didn't know what was going on."
Jermaine, who currently has five warrants out for his arrest in his home state of New Jersey, said he was honest with producers when he first auditioned for the singing competition, revealing that he had been arrested in the past. He assumed he had been properly vetted, as he was even invited to return to the show after being eliminated during the final Vegas round.
"I did not know I was breaking the rules, because before I went, I had to obtain a lawyer and take care of some fines before I could go," he added. "I just thought everything was taken care of."
