American Idol 2012’s Skylar Laine Talks Ignoring Jimmy Iovine’s Advice

Country girl Skylar Laine’s bravery paid off last week on American Idol. Against Jimmy Iovine’s advice, she decided to perform “Love Sneaking up on You” by Bonnie Raitt and impressed all of the judges in the process.

It certainly wasn’t easy for the twangy teen to tell the Season 11 mentor that she didn’t want to sing the songs by Gin Blossoms or Sheryl Crow that he suggested, though. After all, Jimmy’s a producer who can count U2 and Tom Petty among his successful partnerships.

“It’s hard saying no to someone like Jimmy,” Skylar told The Clarion Ledger. “You don’t want to be disrespectful to anyone, especially someone who has done so much in the music business. But... it’s something you have to do because the last thing you want to do is go out on that stage and sing a song that you’re not comfortable with.”

If you ask us, Skylar’s instincts were spot-on. Do you agree that she was right to speak up? Sound off below!
