Best Dance References in Castle Season 4, Episode 18: “A Dance With Death”

One of our favorite things about Castle's team of writers is their meticulous attention to detail, and there was certainly no slacking in Season 4, Episode 18: "A Dance With Death."

We had a blast nerding out over the episode's Dancing With the Stars and ballet references, all of which were pretty darn accurate. If you love the theater as much as we do, get your spirit fingers out, Castle fans, and relive the best dance references from the episode below:

Odette's Name Is From the Ballet Swan Lake

Coincidence? We think not.

In the tragic ballet, the white swan Odette meets her untimely demise when her evil doppelganger, the black swan Odile, steals her identity and tricks the prince into professing his love to her. When Odette realizes she'll never return to her human form, she and the prince commit suicide by swan diving into the lake together, lifting the curse and destroying Odile.

OK, so Castle might have slightly more guns and a few less tutus, but we definitely see a parallel.

Judge No. 3 Is the French Len Goodman

"It was like a terrible dream my dog would have after eating the leftovers from my Brazilian dinner."

If that's not an ode to snarky Dancing With the Stars judge Len Goodman, then we give up!

Lanie Wanted to be the "Prima Ballerina"

When Lanie reveals her secret — that she dreamt of becoming the next prima ballerina — the team is shocked. Why did she become a doctor if her dream was dancing? Well, "the girls" came along at the age of 13, and much to Castle's disappointment, there aren't too many top-heavy dancers in the New York City Ballet.

Eddie Gordon Was Eliminated After Performing a Bob Fosse-Inspired Routine

Bob Fosse, of course, is the mastermind behind Sweet Charity, Damn Yankees, and Chicago. Guess Eddie failed to give 'em the old razzle dazzle.

Barbara Danced on a Bar and a Barre

How did Barbara Landow make a living while chasing her dreams on the Great White Way? She was a much different kind of dancer … the exotic kind. Hey, we all have to start somewhere, right?
