The Voice Finalist Katrina Parker Prepared a Goodbye Speech Before Battling Angel Taylor

Many decisions made by The Voice Season 2 coaches have left us suspicious. Was RaeLynn picked for her Miranda Lambert comparison? Were The Shields Brothers eliminated because they weren’t sexy women?

On the other hand, several recent decisions made by the judges have been spot on, including last Monday's elimination of Angel Taylor, who battled Katrina Parker with the song "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis.

Angel Taylor was the better-known contestant and had multiple judges’ chairs turn for her during the blind auditions. But in the battle round, Katrina blew the nervous Angel out of the water.

And it seems we weren’t the only ones shocked when Katrina beat out Angel. In a recent conference call, Katrina admitted, “Oh, God yes, I was surprised. I knew Adam was being very fair the whole time, but I knew that in this particular pairing, in all honesty, I was not the favorite.”

Instead of allowing this knowledge to defeat her, Katrina used it to her advantage.

“I had reconciled myself with that fact,” Katrina said. “I had my goodbye speech ready to go. Once I was in that mindset, oddly enough, I started having fun thinking this might be my last time on that stage.”

The judges were complimentary of Angel’s performance, but unanimously sided with Katrina.

“Every time someone opened their mouth and said something really positive about my performance, I thought I was going to fall over,” she said laughing. “Things have been tough the last few years, and good things don’t often happen to me. This was a good thing and it really took me by surprise.”

It’s nice to see that true surprises and fair decisions are still possible on The Voice. We wish Katrina the best of luck as she prepares to move on to the live shows starting Monday, April 2 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
