The 24-year-old has only gotten more adorable in subsequent rounds, confessing to the Idol camera during Hollywood Week that the other contestants intimidate him: “Everyone's so tall and pretty... even the guys are so pretty!" Heejun was born in Korea, but now works in Flushing, New York, as a nonprofit organizer who works with kids. He credits the kids as his inspiration for pursuing music. You can follow him on Twitter here.
During Hollywood Week, Heejun forms a group with the formidable Savannah favorite Phillip Phillips, and two other contestants, calling themselves “MIT.” In American Idol Season 11, "The Final Judgment: Part 1," Heejun calls Jennifer Lopez "the American dream." He's basically Season 11's most quotable contestant, hands down.
In his semifinal performance, Heejun charmed viewers once again in his opening segment (awww... we love his dancing mom!) and got mixed reviews from the judges for his take on "Angels." For his Top 13 performance, Heejun sang Stevie Wonder's "All in Love Is Fair." And in his Top 12 performance, Heejun sang Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting" and pointed out his darling girlfriend in the audience
Still, it hasn't been all smooth sailing for the comedic singer. His lighthearted rendition of Billy Joel's “My Life” in the Top 10 garnered criticism from Steven Tyler, who thought he wasn't taking the competition seriously enough. In his Top 9 performance, Heejun tried to redeem himself by selecting “A Song For You” by Donnie Hathaway.
