Game of Thrones Season 2 Spoiler: Which Epic Episode Has George R.R. Martin Worried?

George R.R. Martin, the author of the beloved book series that HBO's Game of Thrones is based on, is heavily involved with the production of the show. Indeed, he has even lent his pen to the show, scripting Season 1, Episode 8: "The Pointy End," and Season 2, Episode 9: "Blackwater."

Recently, George opened up to The Vancouver Sun about working on the show, and more specifically, about why he's so nervous about the epic, hugely important, upcoming episode he wrote.

The episode will feature a huge battle, which Martin describes as "a gigantic set piece in the book [A Clash of Kings]." He adds that the battle "occupies 12 chapters, or something like that," and in the TV version "it fills up the entire episode."

Yeah. Epic, like we said. But is it too epic for TV?

"I’m on tenterhooks to see what sort of [production] values [were used] and how much . . . they were able to capture on screen," George admitted. "Of course, we [have] a high budget for a TV show, but we are low-budget for a feature film."

Show creator Dan Weiss told Entertainment Weekly that the episode took a month to film. A month. Fans of the books will have a sense of some of the particular challenges this multi-pronged battle posed for the cast and crew, but we have faith that they will pull it off in spectacular fashion.

And in case the fact that so much effort went into the episode isn't enough to get you excited, here's one other tidbit: Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) features heavily.

Yeah, it's gonna be awesome.
