The Bachelor

Was Ben and Courtney’s Bachelor About Drama or Love? Molly Mesnick Weighs In

Jason Mesnick’s Season 13 of The Bachelor may have had one of the most dramatic endings ever, but it also resulted in a rare post-show marriage that’s still going strong.

Two years since tying the knot with her Bachelor love, finale dumpee-turned-The One Molly Mesnick recalls that time with Bachelor Expert’s Ashley Elgin — but notes that despite its finale and ATFR twists and turns, her season was nowhere near as crazy as Ben Flajnik’s season.

“I just feel like the format of the show has changed so much since our season,” says Molly. “It’s definitely more about the drama than finding a love story… but that certainly makes for great entertainment!”

So is that what viewers can expect for the next 10 years of the franchise? We would hate to think that Emily Maynard’s “journey” to love would be tainted by producers’ increasing desire to duplicate a Courtney Robertson storyline. (Then again, men tend to be a lot less catty under these circumstances.)

“Our time in the house was all about fun, sun, and occasionally going on a fun date with the Bachelor,” shares Molly. “I would not have been able to handle being in the house this season. No way!” (Maybe that’s why she and Season 16 runner-up Lindzi Cox have already bonded since Ben’s ex has returned to the Seattle area.)

After witnessing a whirlwind of a love story that’s still a work-in-progress, it’s nice to be reminded of the successful unions that have come out of the franchise (however few). Maybe Ben and Courtney will look to the Mesnicks for inspiration, too!
