Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Why Is the Season 3 Finale Called “The Departed”?

If Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) is going to tweet a photo without him in it, we prefer they be spoiler-y pics, such as when he sent out cover of the script for The Vampire Diaries Season 3, Episode 22, “The Departed.” But that’s a pretty ominous title, and E! has a clue as to why it’s called that.

It sounds like the finale will be the episode when we see Elena (Nina Dobrev) and her parents go over Wickery Bridge in a flashback. Zap2It spills that Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert have already been cast — but we won’t be getting a very good look at them. The local Atlanta actors will mostly be underwater and will have few lines.

So, the departed could be referring to those people Elena’s already lost… but we’re still worried that Season 4 will have a few less cast members (especially since Nina Dobrev said the finale will end tragically!).
