Game of Thrones Season 2 Spoiler: Renly Baratheon Teams Up With the Tyrells (VIDEO)

Of all of the many awesome Game of Thrones Season 2 promos, this new profile of Renly Baratheon, the late King Robert's youngest brother, may be our very favorite, because it is chock-full of scenes that are new to TV viewers and book readers alike.

Spoiler-phobes be warned: This profile contains a lot of info about Renly's role in the new season.

This profile delves into Renly's quest to be king. Gethin Anthony, who plays Renly, explains that despite having no legitimate claim to the throne, Renly "really does believe in himself and the kind of glorious alliance he's got around him" — an alliance that includes 22 (!) different houses. Hey, the man is popular, that's the entire reason he thinks he's "the best man for the job."

This video hammers home the point that Stannis, Renly's older bro and Robert's true heir, does not buy his brother's argument at all, and is prepared to fight his own blood for his rightful place at the head of the kingdom.

Beyond setting up this good old fashioned sibling rivalry (complete with armies!), this video also delves into Renly's relationship with the Tyrells, which is where it gets really interesting for book readers, since Renly and the Tyrells don't have any POV chapters in A Clash of Kings.

As you may recall, Renly is having an affair with Loras Tyrell, who comes from a very rich family. This being the pseudo-Middle Ages, Renly can't exactly tie the knot with his male lover to secure the alliance. Don't worry, he's found the next best thing: Renly's sister Margaery, who is apparently well aware of how purely political her marriage is.

Our favorite moment of this video is a scene that wasn't in the books. In it, Margaery cheerfully walks in on Renly and Loras going at it and is like, Sure, whatever. Awesome. We love you already, Margaery.

Game of Thrones Season 2 premieres on Sunday, April 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
