Source: Modern Family Cast Asking For Season 4 Salary Bumps, “It’s Going to Get Ugly”

Now that Modern Family has advanced from lovable sitcom hit to awards show/ratings domination, the cast is in the fortunate position of being able to negotiate raises. So how much were they making for Season 3, and how much more do they want for Season 4?

The Hollywood Reporter reports that most of the stars — Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy), Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy) , Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell Pritchett), Eric Stonestreet (Cameron Tucker) and Sofia Vergara (Gloria) — “were paid in the $65,000-an-episode range for the 22-episode third season.”

To put things in perspective, the Big Bang Theory cast asked for raises in the $200,000 range after their third season was up. But, as THR points out, Modern Family has twice as many leads with enough clout to make demands.

Adding even more to the expensive cast’s salary numbers, Ed O'Neill (Jay Pritchett) made considerably more for Season 3, in the “$105,000 range an episode, plus a small backend he receives for agreeing to cut his quote to join the series in 2009.” Despite being the big name attached to the pilot, one could argue that Sofia Vergara has surpassed his name recognition, putting her in a position to ask for the highest salary.

With ratings high and steady (Modern Family averaged 13.7 million viewers every week in Season 3, with a 5.9 rating — incredibly strong numbers), a source tells THR, “It’s going to get ugly.”

Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
