Carson Daly Apologizes For Anti-Gay Comments on Twitter and in Official Statement to GLAAD

Is this Carson Daly or Howard Stern?

The former TRL host and current host of The Voice should have kept his “voice” quiet on his morning radio talk show yesterday. When discussing a recent incident in which a JetBlue pilot had to be restrained aboard a plane, Carson made some anti-gay jokes.

“It turns out on this particular flight most of the people were on their way to some security conference in Las Vegas,” Carson said. “So there were a bunch of dudes, and well-trained dudes. What are the odds of that? If that were me, my luck, it would be this is the flight going to PRIDE in San Francisco. That would be my colleagues.”

Carson then went on to mock the scenario in an affected voice saying, “‘Uh, we’re headed down to Vegas for the floral convention. Can we get a little help up here with the pilot? Oh no! No, thank you! Handle it!’”

Though the comments were seemingly made as a joke, the host made several apologies after receiving backlash. Last night on Twitter, Carson tweeted, “This morning on my radio show I attempted to make fun of myself & offended others by mistake. I sincerely apologize.”

But members of the LGBT community don’t seem to feel his words are enough. The responses to his tweet offered strong emotions and resentment.

Carson also issued an official statement after talking with GLAAD saying, “We live in a time where gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals find courage every day to overcome adversity, stand up to bullying and find equality. I'm truly saddened that my words today suggested otherwise.

“I've long been a supporter of gay, lesbian, and transgender rights, and I'm saddened that my comments, however unintentional, offended anyone, specifically members of the LGBT community. The fact that I have hurt anyone is devastating. I'm not that guy. I'm proud to be an ally of the LGBT community and will continue to fight with them."

There’s no news yet on whether Carson’s comments will affect his job either as the radio show’s host or on The Voice.
