Hunger Games Star Amandla Stenberg Thanks Her Loyal Fans: Take That, Racist Tweeters

Those racist tweeters will rue the day they ever complained about the casting of black actors in The Hunger Games movie.

Amandla Stenberg, the 13-year-old actress who plays Rue in the box-office killer, released a statement Wednesday in response to the stream of deeply disturbing racist tweets. "As a fan of the books, I feel fortunate to be part of The Hunger Games family," she told Us Weekly. "It was an amazing experience; I am proud of the film and my performance. I want to thank all of my fans and the entire Hunger Games community for their support and loyalty."

At 13 she’s already far more mature than the "fans" questioning her presence in the movie.

Interestingly enough, Rue and Thresh, her fellow District 11 tribute, are described as "dark-skinned" in the book; so it truly boggles the mind as to why moviegoers would get up in arms about black actors playing those parts. (Dayo Okeniy plays Thresh, and Lenny Kravitz is spot-on as Cinna, whose race is never mentioned in the books.)

WTF, haters. W. T. F.
