Dancing With The Stars

Backlash Alert! Is William Levy Overrated on Dancing With the Stars?

William Levy already had a huge fan base even before turning the Dancing With the Stars ballroom into a one-man sold-out arena show. Obviously, judge Bruno Tonioli and Season 14’s live audience find William to be nothing short of Elvis. But not everyone is feeling the Team Fuego fever.

When we tweeted a link to our story about William finally going shirtless for Week 3, some fans responded with verbal eye rolls and head shakes.

As noted Maksim Chmerkovskiy fan @Mendoza1114 replied, “Judges need to concentrate on his footwork and not his shirtless body. Salsa is meant to be danced, not walked. #SMH.” Another Chemerkovskiy fan, @Lannatexasgal, wrote, “@DWTSWetpaint really don't see the appeal and really didn't deserve those high scores.”

But it’s not just Maks and Val fans who are questioning William’s appeal. Last week, DWTS pro Derek Hough said he and Maria Menounos would be getting “inappropriate” in their Week 3 Rumba to compete with William’s popularity. Fan Charlotte Aguilar commented under the story, “dereck you don't have to do anything sexey just be you because you dance very well and you can win by just being you.”

Earlier today, DWTS pro Tristan MacManus was asked about William and raved about the Cuban star to Entertainment Weekly. A fan named Grace noted in the comments, “...please don´t ever ask him about that beef cake/pole dancing/gigolo again please Tristan is a class act and the other one is not.” A fan named Patty replied to that with “Different backgrounds, different lives but I like them both. No need to be harsh.”

Grace further clarified her anti-William opinion, writing, “The truth is I didn´t meant to be harsh, but most people have no idea how mean and big-headed William became in Mexico. When I said that Tristan is a class act and WL is not is because he has many fans and treats them unfairly seriously look online and you´ll see, now that he is in the US he´s all nice and sweet but his fans from Mexico put him there and he has shown no appreciation. I just thought that it was very rude to ask an extremely talented, sweet and beautiful man about the screams that another man produces only because ‘he´s hot’ but that´s my opinion …”

What is your opinion?
