How The Voice’s Live Shows Work

The Voice’s battle rounds and blind auditions are a thing of the past, and tonight we’re gearing up for the first set of live shows!

But how do the live shows work on The Voice?

One thing’s for sure: The show’s format has never conformed to past music reality shows! America has a say, but so do the judges, which makes their involvement even more prevalent in this competition.

Because there are so many remaining contestants (24 total), the first few weeks of live shows will feature contestants based on teams. Tonight’s performances will be from the 12 remaining contestants on Team Blake and Team Christina.

America has a chance to vote for their favorites on a variety of mediums and the top three from each team will be safe in the hour-long elimination episodes starting this Tuesday, April 3 at 9 p.m. ET.

During the elimination shows, those contestants in the bottom three from each team will have the chance to perform a “last chance” song for their coaches. This Tuesday, Blake and Christina will be left to decide which of the bottom contestants will be going home.

Four contestants will be eliminated Tuesday night, and contestants from Team Adam and Team Cee Lo will go up next week for elimination.

It will all culminate in the final episode in which the top four contestants (one from each team) go head-to-head for the title of “The Voice.” The show’s finale will air live on Tuesday, May 8.
