Why You May Not Be Able to Watch Bones or Gossip Girl Tonight: The CW and Fox Go Dark For DirecTV Users
If part of your Sunday unwinding ritual is watching Family Guy at 9:00 p.m., you may have been greeted with an error message when you tuned in — if you’re a Direct TV user. So where the heck was Stewie? He was watching an episode of the Jolly Farm Revue, as cable users can attest. Unlike many satellite users, their Fox broadcast was un-interrupted by the stalemate between DirecTV and Tribune Co.
On April 1, the contract between the two companies expired, and because they couldn’t reach an agreement on retransmission fees for several stations owned by Tribune Co., channels in several markets were pulled from DirecTV. Tribune Co. owns Fox or CW stations in Seattle, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Washington, DC, among other markets.
Both companies blame the other for failing to reach an agreement, but viewers who side with Tribune Co. can go to TellDirecTV.com and air their grievances about not being able to watch tonight’s new episode of Gossip Girl. (How Dair you!)
