Adele on Why She Envies Beyonce’s Career and When She’ll Drop Her Next/Third Album
Adele, just 22, has already won six Grammys (tying Beyonce for most wins by a woman in one night), undergone major throat surgery, blown previous international sales records out of the water, and is currently worth around $17 million. Ain’t no thang! The British singer tells BBC she’s not stopping the soul train anytime soon — and plans to release another single within the year.
Despite her ambitious plans to record another ubiquitous ballad like “Someone Like You” or “Rolling in the Deep,” Adele makes it clear the album itself won’t be out for another two years. “If I didn't write my own songs, I'd be out next week with a new album,” she explains. Adele is a standout among her peers in that she writes all of her own material. Rihanna, for example, doesn’t have a writing credit on most of her hit singles, according to NPR.
Adele calls Beyonce an inspiration. “I adore Beyonce, I've been listening to her since I was about 11,” adding that Bey’s creative trajectory — from Destiny’s Child to critically-acclaimed pop diva — has set the bar high for female singers. “I think her work as an artist and a singer is enviable in terms of the length of her career and how she's grown and grown.”
