Eliminated Voice Contestant Naia Kete: They Wouldn’t Let Me Sing a Reggae Song!

Last night’s elimination show on The Voice was tough for everyone, especially the six artists in the bottom three from Team Blake Shelton and Team Christina Aguilera.

Those artists were given the opportunity to perform one “Last Chance” song for their coaches to convince the celebs to keep them in the competition.

Team Blake’s Naia Kete, a street performer and reggae artist, seemed particularly flustered after her performance of Beyonce’s “If I Were a Boy.”

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish you came out here and did something reggae. I still love the reggae stuff,” Blake said.

Naia then stammered and finally said, “They wouldn’t let me! Honestly, I swear to God! There was only so many songs, Blake! I swear!”

Her response didn’t seem to be resentful — in fact, she appeared so sincere and apologetic that it broke our hearts. And Naia and her teammate Charlotte Sometimes ended up being the first sent home from Team Blake in the live shows.

It’s also interesting that Blake made that comment after he forced the singer to sing a non-reggae version of Adele’s “Turning Tables” in Monday night’s first live show.

Do you think Naia’s song choices were fair to her as a performer? Vote below!
