The Voice Season 2 Music Wish List for April 9, 2012: Songs We’d Love to Hear Team Cee Lo and Team Adam Sing
It’s time for the second round of live shows on The Voice Season 2. This week, Team Adam and Team Cee Lo will be up for elimination. To ensure that each performer does their best, we’ve recommended these songs to match their signature style.
We hope they pay attention!
Karla Davis “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum The purity in Karla’s voice means that she excels at slow, melodic tunes, and we think a Lady Antebellum song would be perfect!
Katrina Parker “Rumor Has It” by Adele Since Christina Aguilera compared Katrina’s style to that of Grammy-winner Adele, we’ve been dying to hear the singer belt out a ballad. And we don’t need a sappy, slow-paced song!
Kim Yarbrough “And I Am Telling You” from Dreamgirls This powerhouse diva seems up for any challenge, so why not give her one of the most challenging songs in diva history? This song by the character Effie from Dreamgirls was originally played on Broadway by Jennifer Holliday and on film by Jennifer Hudson.
Mathai “Take a Bow” by Rihanna This sassy teen has already conquered Adele and Sara Bareilles, so why not pop singer Rihanna? She has plenty of attitude for this sarcastic song.
Pip “I Don’t Want To Be” by Gavin Degraw Pip has an older sound, but a fresh, young look, just like Dancing With the Stars contestant and singer Gavin DeGraw. Plus, a bowtie to Pip is as a fedora is to Gavin.
Tony Lucca “Layla” by Eric Clapton The former Mouseketeer has proven his musical stamina with U2’s “Beautiful Day,” so it seems right that he would attempt rock legend Eric Clapton’s “Layla.”
Team Cee Lo
Cheesa “Spotlight” by Jennifer Hudson Though Cheesa has a strong sound, she tends to struggle on the lower notes before the chorus. Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight” stays out of the lower register and will give Cheesa the opportunity to shine … get it?
Erin Martin “Shake It Out” by Florence + The Machine Erin’s distinctive sound is more stylistic than powerful, just like Florence + The Machine. Since “The Dog Days Are Over,” we think it’s time for Erin to “Shake It Out.”
Jamar Rogers “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley OK, so maybe this is a no-brainer, but Jamar clearly worships Cee Lo Green. Why not allow him to sing his idol’s hit song?
James Massone “Forever” by Chris Brown We loved hearing James Massone slow things down in his battle round and sing “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper. But now it’s time to celebrate the live shows, and we think he’d sound great on this Chris Brown song!
Juliet Simms “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road” by The Beatles Juliet sang “Oh! Darling” for her blind audition and it left us reminiscent of The Beatles movie/musical Across the Universe. In the film, a rocker with a raspy sound, much like Juliet, tears it up with “Why Don’t we Do It In The Road,” and we’d like the see the contestant do the same ... on the stage, not in the road.
Tony Vincent “Holiday” by Green Day Since Tony starred in the Green Day Broadway musical American Idiot, he’d be a pro at this song. It requires an equal amount of power and emotion — which should be an easy feat after welcoming a baby girl into the world this week.
