3 Reasons The Voice’s Tony Vincent Should Not Have Been Eliminated
Last night’s elimination episode was tough for Team Cee Lo Green. The problem was that there were a surprising number of impressive performances — too many to fit in the top three.
Broadway rocker Tony Vincent found himself up for elimination against contestants Erin Martin and Cheesa. After singing “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” for a shot at staying in the competition, Tony lost out to Cheesa.
Cee Lo said that his head was telling him to go with Tony, but his heart was pointing him toward Cheesa.
Here’s why Tony should have stayed in the competition:
1. His Killer Vocals
We didn’t need to know that Tony has had multiple runs on Broadway and in the West End of London to acknowledge that he has an impressive sound. This performer has worked with Queen and Green Day, immortalizing the bands’ songs on stage to rave reviews.
He wasn’t afraid of putting on a rockin’ show and embraced Cee Lo’s over-the-top style. They seemed to be perfectly in sync, which made his departure from the show surprising and sudden.
And while Cheesa can hit some impressively high notes, she has little vocal control when it comes to singing an entire song. Though the judges seemed to focus solely on how powerful Cheesa’s last chance performance was, they didn’t consider that Tony is a better all-around vocalist.
Tony never tried to conform to an image more Americans might be comfortable with. He rocked his shaved head, eyeliner, and black nail polish, and underneath it all came off as a very kind, genuine guy.
How harsh to kick off a brand new dad! We know this has nothing to do with the show, but what a horrible story to tell your child about their birth. “Well, Daddy was in a singing competition when you were born, and the next week was voted off.”
Bummer. But at least Tony will be returning home to his happy family!
