The Voice’s Christina Aguilera Defends Her Eliminations: “There’s a Reason Behind Every Single Decision I Make”
After Monday night’s surprising elimination of fan-favorite Jesse Campbell, The Voice coach Christina Aguilera gave viewers another surprise in last night’s elimination episode — she broke into tears.
The typically tough diva has been out-cried by coach Cee Lo Green all season and has kept a brave face even when facing harsh criticism.
But last night after her contestant Lindsey Pavao broke down after her last chance performance of Mike Posner’s “Please Don’t Go,” Christina was in tears too.
“Tonight, Lindsey brought me to tears,” Christina told The Hollywood Reporter. “And there was just no two ways around it. What was felt was felt. And it was real and it was honest and that's the best that I can do and what I always bring to the table as a coach. Love me, hate me, as a coach I think it's the only fair thing to these guys to be honest in the moment.”
Christina’s waterworks continued when she eliminated her youngest contestant, Ashley De La Rosa. The coach has admitted several times that the impressive rocker reminders her of a young Xtina — though by the age of 17, Christina had already been a Mouseketeer and was recording a song for the soundtrack of Mulan.
Christina has also been under severe scrutiny for her decision to eliminate Jesse Campbell. On last night’s episode, she defended her decision saying, “I am no stranger to controversy and I am OK with that. I am fearless in the face of what I believe and I will defend every action I make. Jesse will go on and touch people with his voice.”
And even though Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green have both admitted they didn’t agree with Christina’s decision, she was OK with that.
“Nobody knows our team more than us coaches ourselves and there’s definitely rhyme and reason behind every single decision I make,” she said to THR.
