Voice Contestants Katrina Parker and Cheesa Respond to Eliminated Contestant Erin Martin’s Negative Comments

Eliminating contestants is never easy, and The Voice judge Cee Lo Green was under fire last week from eliminated contestant Erin Martin for sending her home early.

The former model claimed that it was Cee Lo’s unusual song choices that led to her ultimate downfall, and that he failed to nurture her as an artist.

Zap2It spoke with the two contestants who were saved last week from Team Adam and Team Cee Lo — Katrina Parker and Cheesa — about Erin’s comments.

"It's a collaborative effort," Cheesa said. "If you don't feel comfortable, they're always there to listen to your opinions. Sometimes you've just got to trust them, though. It's a win-win situation. You never know which way to go."

Katrina agreed, saying that venturing out of one’s comfort zone really proves that they are “the voice.” She discussed her decision to perform a Smashing Pumpkins song last week.

“You can’t stay comfortable,” Katrina said. “You have to do things that are uncomfortable and sometimes you have to do things that are incredibly awkward, but you do them because you want to grow.”

Although few agree with Erin’s complaints, the contestants’ lack of involvement in song selection seems to be a recurring issue on the show. Eliminated contestant Naia Kete was upset that she wasn’t given any reggae options to perform right before she was voted off on April 3.

What do you think? Are the contestants not given a chance to show off their talents as individuals? Do the judges have too much say? Comment below!
