Castle’s Penny Johnson Jerald on Captain “Iron” Gates: Get Ready to See Her in Her Element! – Exclusive

Could Castle’s captain be changing her attitude towards our hero in upcoming episodes?

Victoria “Iron” Gates’ icy treatment of the crack detective has been a show theme all season, but now, the actress who plays her hints their relationship might thaw.

When Wetpaint Entertainment asked Penny Johnson Jerald if Iron is warming to Castle, she said, “I don’t know if warming is the word, but I think she takes notice of Castle. And then she’s calculating [his] worth or not worth. And we’ll see what that tallies up to.”

Meanwhile, the hard-nosed captain is getting a better hang of the 12th precinct, Penny revealed.

“You’re going to see her do her job, [and] do her job well. I’m excited about a couple of episodes that we just finished, and I think that she’s really in her element. I had a blast shooting them.”

But Penny was keeping her lips zipped about upcoming details on her character. When asked if fans are going to see Gates in a different light, she told Wetpaint, “I think so,” but wouldn’t say in what way: “I can’t tell.”

Penny, who, as Wetpaint recently reported, turned a gorgeous 51 in March, said she enjoys her character being beefed up lately on the show.

“I’m a pretty good critic when it comes to myself and what I’m looking at. I think my rhythm is heard. The writing, for me, on a personal note, has just totally improved and it makes going to work really a lot of fun. The scripts are really fabulous.”
