Eliminated Voice Contestant Jesse Campbell: “I Believed I Was a Favorite”
Though former Team Christina contestant Jesse Campbell has seemingly remained positive about his surprising elimination last Monday night, April 16, on The Voice, it’s clear he was just as shocked as America.
In a recent interview with The Root, Jesse was asked if his coach, Christina Aguilera, played favorites.
“Yes. They all do, and I believed I was a favorite of all of them, which is why the elimination was so shocking,” he responded.
Jesse had been dubbed “the dude to beat” by coach Adam Levine, and Xtina’s fellow judges Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green have admitted their surprise at her elimination.
When Christina explained her decision, noting that her other team members have more growth potential than Jesse, the 42-year-old single dad took it as a compliment.
“If she feels as though I was not growing, it’s only because I had already grown in those areas,” he said. “Maybe she could not assist me as she could the others. So, I see that in a positive way.
“But at the same time, I look at it as, how can I be more diverse? How can I grow? When I came on that show, I told all four judges that I am here to learn. If there is something to learn that will help me grow, give it to me and I will grow.”
When asked if he felt The Voice judges had provided the advice to help him to grow, he declined to comment.
