Jennifer Hudson Cries as She Takes Stand in Murder Trial
We can think of few things as painful as having to relive the trauma of a family tragedy. Former American Idol contestant and Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson took the stand today during the trial of her former brother-in-law, William Balfour, who is charged with the 2008 fatal shootings of Jennifer’s mother, brother, and nephew. He has pleaded not guilty for the murders, which allegedly took place after William became jealous over his estranged wife Julia’s romantic life.
Speaking before a jury in Chicago, PEOPLE reports that Jennifer recounted the events of the day the bodies were found, becoming emotional and at one point crying on the witness stand. On the fateful day, the singer was in Florida with her fiance, WWE wrestler David Otunga, and began to worry when she was unable to reach her mother via text message or telephone. It wasn’t until her sister Julia called David’s phone that the couple found out about the brutal slayings.
According to PEOPLE, Jennifer never approved of Julia’s relationship with William and even warned her sister not to marry him. “None of us, myself, my mother, or my brother, we did not like how he treated her, and I didn’t like how he treated my nephew,” she told the jury.
Jennifer received support in the courtroom from dozens of family members, including her son, David Jr., and her fiance. Our hearts are definitely going out to the entire Hudson family throughout this difficult ordeal.
