Grey’s Anatomy Season 8 Finale Spoiler: 9 Characters Will Be “In Jeopardy”

We’ve been hearing a lot of scary rumors and spoilers about the Grey's Anatomy Season 8 finale (Season 8, Episode 24, "Flight"), from a “plane crash death” to the death involving a “beloved" character. And Sarah Drew (April Kepner) isn’t shying away from freaking us out further.

“It’s big, it’s intense. It’s scary. It’s emotional. It’s exciting. All of those things. It’s a big one,” she says of the catastrophe in the finale. “Everybody’s in jeopardy.”

But every single cast member can’t seriously be at risk for dying, right? Not exactly, according to Sarah. “There are three or four people who are not [involved] in the cliffhanger at the end of the episode. But every other cast member, like nine of us, are all in this — [so] who knows what’s going to happen, whether they’re going to be back or not.”

It’s hard to ignore the Season 9 contract negotiations when discussing possible deaths at the end of Season 8. All six original cast members — Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd), Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang), Justin Chambers (Alex Karev), James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber), and Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) — have the option of signing off on Grey’s forever now that their contracts are up. Will the death take care of at least one character’s decision not to come back? Or will the contracts have nothing to do with the story?

We’re scared just thinking about it!

Catch a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, April 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
