Huge Grey’s Anatomy Season 8 Finale Spoiler: Someone Is Going to Die

Grey's Anatomy Season 8 has been an emotional roller coaster, and the ride is far from over. TV Guide has a major scoop straight from Shonda Rhimes, and it's probably not going to make fans happy.

According to William Keck, who talked to Shonda herself, a "beloved" character indeed, a series regular will die on the Season 8 finale (Season 8, Episode 24, "Flight"). Well, that explains why the cast found it so sad.

"A lot of our writers were crying, which is a very rare thing," Shonda said. "There's some really shocking, horrible moments."

How horrible? So horrible that Shonda claims the situation is actually worse than the gunman from the Season 6 finale. Wow.

According to Shonda, the action actually starts in Season 8, Episode 23: "Migration," with a case that takes the docs out of the hospital. "It's sort of the medical case of their lives"

Shonda also dished that "we sort of end [the season] with our breaths held," which makes sense, since exactly where the characters go in Season 9 will be influenced by which actors return.

Some good news, amongst the bad, though: Shonda was planning to have MerDer's dream house burn down during the finale, but changed her mind. So that's something.

For much more from Shonda, check out the full interview at TV Guide.

Catch a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, April 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
