My Two Moms Author on Letterman Discusses Gay Marriage, Homophobia, and… Kim Kardashian?
Zach Wahls, the University of Iowa student who exploded on Youtube last year when defending gay marriage and his two mothers' union, guested on David Letterman tonight and discussed his new book, My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Strength, and What Makes a Family, bullying and homophobia. He even took a swipe at Kim Kardashian, saying, "Gays messing up the sanctity of marriage? I think Kim Kardashian's doing an alright job of that herself." Ouch!
On a more serious note, Zach opened up to Letterman about his firsthand experiences being bullied in school for having gay parents: "My moms, when they found out I was being picked on, sat me down and tried to explain...the important thing wasn't punishing the other kids, it was making sure I could stand up for myself," he said. "As kids got to know me personally and they got to know my moms, they found out there wasn't really anything to be scared of or to be picked on."
Zach, looking very dapper opposite Mr. Letterman, is an outspoken blogger and supporter of LGBT rights.
My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Strength, and What Makes a Family is due out on Thursday.
