In the Season 2 finale, Rick invited Kate to spend Memorial Day at his beachside house in The Hamptons, but she shot him down for a romantic getaway with her robbery detective boyfriend Tom Demming. Feeling hurt and rejected, Castle suggested they spend some time apart.
But as luck would have it, Beckett had a last-minute change of heart. Not only did she break up with Tom, but she also planned to tell Castle how she felt and — presumably — accept his invitation.
In another case of "Castle and Beckett Have the World's Worst Timing," the detective didn't even get the chance to utter the words, because in waltzed Castle's ex-wife, Gina.
"See you in the fall," the mystery writer told Beckett, as he and Gina took off for The Hamptons, arm-in-arm.
We hate revisiting this somber moment in Caskett history, but Rick's latest tweet has us thinking about what could have been — and hopefully, what still can be.
"Maybe it’s time to take a trip back to the Hamptons now that Spring is in the air. No murder this year, I hope. I need the vacation," he tweeted.
If there's one literary lesson we've learned from Castle, it's how to read between the lines. Call us crazy, but we think Rick might be foreshadowing things to come, especially considering that Memorial Day is just a few weeks after the Season 4 finale, "Always."
What say you, Caskett 'shippers? Will Kate finally be joining her ruggedly handsome partner in crime(solving) for a weekend getaway in The Hamptons?
