Goodbye American Idol 2012 Contestant Elise Testone: What Other Memorable Contestants Came in Sixth?

What’s in a number, anyway? Elise Testone was sent home during last night’s American Idol results show, finishing at a very respectable sixth place. As a seasoned performer and member of three different bands back home in Charleston, South Carolina, we’re confident the 28-year-old singer won’t be resting on her laurels for long. Plus, she’s in great company! Many other sixth place-finishing Idols from previous seasons have gone on to make significant marks in the music world, be it in country music or on Broadway. Here are some of our favorite sixers:

Casey Abrams, Season 10
This bearded and bearish goofball was definitely one of Idol’s more unique contestants. Casey even admitted to AOL TV that he was was probably too weird to remain on the show. The judges were consistently rooting for him, and even saved him from being sent home in Top 11 week. His struggles with ulcerative colitis also landed him in the hospital twice throughout the competition. But his jazz-leaning tendencies alienated some Idol voters and resulted in his elimination during Carole King week. He exited the show with a memorable rendition of “I Put a Spell On You,” in which he wandered through the audience while shaking hands, hugging and kissing fans. In January, Casey announced via an adorkable video that he had signed with Concord Music Group, which is home to scads of jazz musicians and even Sir Paul McCartney, who released his last album, Kisses On the Bottom, through Concord.

Kellie Pickler, Season 5
This Southern sweetheart from North Carolina drew many comparisons to Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood for her country-singing predilections. Then-judge Simon Cowell even declared that he preferred Kellie over Carrie. Audiences seemed to love both her voice and her quirky, at times ditzy personality traits. Unfortunately she was eliminated from the Top 6 during the Love Songs theme week after singing “Unchained Melody.” Since leaving Idol, Kellie has released three albums and received several CMT Awards. She’s even nominated this year for Best Female Video, which she’ll be competing with Carrie for, of course.

Constantine Maroulis, Season 4
Along with fellow Season 4 contestant Bo Bice, Constantine was seen as a rock crusader on Idol. Called “the one to beat” by then-judge Paula Abdul, Constantine fell from grace during 21st Century week, where he sang Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me.” As a fan favorite, his early departure was a somewhat of a shock, and Paula even shed a tear on camera. Post-Idol, Constantine has had a robust career on Broadway, most notably starring in the 2009 launch of the hit musical Rock of Ages. The role earned him a Tony nomination for Best Performance by Leading Actor, and he was voted Broadway.com’s Star of the Year as well. You can catch him playing a 1980s record producer in this year’s Rock of Ages film adaptation, which stars Tom Cruise.
