Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba told Maria that Katherine had to watch her back because Kat had been leading for the ladies until Maria and Derek’s Paso Doble earned them the first perfect score of Season 14. But not only is Kat not worried about losing her frontrunner crown, she couldn’t be happier for her buddies.
“If I could pick one team in this competition that I would want that [a perfect score] to happen for, it would be Maria and Derek,” Katherine told On the Red Carpet. Her partner, Mark, has been best friends with Derek since they were young’uns and Kat and Maria have bonded as besties in the competition.
Mark told OTRC he predicted the other pair to get a perfect score when he watched Maria in rehearsals, thinking if she did that on the live show — or kicked it up a few gears —she could finally get all three judges to flash their 10 paddles. “And she went for it tonight and killed it,” Mark said. “And she deserves it,” Katherine added, “I’m really, really proud.”
Katherine said she can’t wait to watch the dance back because, when the scores were announced in the Celebriquarium, she thinks she and Mark were "jumping around like looneys" even more than Maria and Derek. And indeed they were, as anyone who noticed Kat and Mark’s background reaction enjoyed last night. It was a very sweet sight to behold, especially on such a competitive season. Group hug!
