Private Practice is considered a “bubble” show, meaning it hovers in the ratings between a hit series and a series without enough viewers. Since Scandal took over its prime spot after Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday nights, Private Practice has been performing surprisingly well in its new 10 p.m. ET/PT slot on Tuesdays. According to Zap2It, the show had its most-watched night in 1 ½ years on April 24 (8.4 million).
Deadline also reports that a possible sixth and final season might be limited to 13 episodes, as star Kate Walsh’s contract is coming up. We also wonder if Shonda Rhimes is concerned about having so many shows on the air at once. If her pilot for Gilded Lilys gets picked up for Fall, and Private Practice is renewed, she’ll have four shows on at once: Scandal, Grey’s, PP, and Gilded Lilys.
Would you be sad if next season was the last for Private Practice? Or do you think it’s already had a good run?
Catch a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, May 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
