New Soundtrack for TV’s Smash Features Only 13 Songs

While Glee's popping tunes are released in numerous volumes (and rarely dipping below 15 songs per CD), NBC's competing upstart musical series Smash released the soundtrack for Season 1 today, with a paltry 13 songs out of a possible 50 that have aired. A quick gander on iTunes reveals that fans can access over 35 of the tunes, so why such slim pickin's?

About half of the skimpy selection is devoted to more pop-inspired songs, like Katherine McPhee’s cover of Xtina's beautiful “Beautiful” (the song that aired absolutely everywhere in commercials for the show before it premiered), while the others feature original material written specifically for the show and with more of a Broadway feel.

To hear more of Katherine, Megan Hilty and Nick Jonas belting it out, resourceful fans will have to hunt for the first season online, which it just so happens is viewable on iTunes.

In far brighter news, however, don't forget that Smash was recently renewed for a second season!
