According to TMZ and Global Grind, Beastie Boys rapper Adam “MCA” Yauch has died at the age of 47 after a three-year battle with cancer. Back in 2009 Yauch revealed that he was undergoing surgery and radiation therapy for a cancerous salivary gland.
Two years later, in January 2011, Yauch told Rolling Stone that he was hopeful about beating the Big C: "I'm continuing treatment, staying optimistic, and hoping to be cancer free in the near future," he said.
Unfortunately, he didn’t make it to his group's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month.
Yauch co-founded the Beastie Boys with Mike “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horowitz in 1979 as a hardcore punk band. After branching out into hip-hop, they hit it big and ultimately racked up three Grammy Awards — two in 1999 and one in 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Dechen Wangdu, and daughter, Tenzin Losel Yauch.
