Twist! Shonda Rhimes Hints That No One Is Safe From Grey’s Anatomy Season 8 Finale Death

Oh Shonda, why do you tease us so?

Earlier this week, veritable spoiler factory Michael Ausiello of TVLine listed out some characters that are “safe” from the highly anticipated death during the Grey's Anatomy Season 8 finale. Those characters included Meredith, Cristina, Alex, Bailey, Jackson, and Mark. However, now Shonda is saying that Ausiello’s spoiler might not be that trustworthy.

When a fan asked Shonda about Ausiello’s list, Shonda replied that she “would not believe Ausiello.” Does this mean that the “safe” list is wrong or is Shonda just trying to make us go crazy?

For what it’s worth, when we asked fans to narrow down the death list, most of you thought that major death could involve Richard or (gulp) Derek. We have to admit, Patrick Dempsey has been pretty open about considering leaving the show once his contract is up after Season 8, so this could mean that he and Shonda discussed him leaving the show before she wrote the finale. McDreamy dying would break our hearts, but it also wouldn’t be completely out of the question.

Either way, we’ll have to scrap our Death Watch list and start from scratch all over again thanks to Shonda’s tweet. However, during our recent interview with Sarah Drew (April Kepner), she revealed that she is hoping to see more about April and Jackson’s relationship in Season 9, which might hint that at least those two lovebirds are safe. (Or are they?)

Catch a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, May 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
