The Avengers vs. The Hunger Games: Which Brought in More Midnight Audiences?

It takes a real fan to battle the lines and sleep deprivation that come with attending a midnight movie screening. Naturally, fangirls and boys turned out in droves for the opening of the the latest star-studded Marvel adaptation, The Avengers. But were sales high enough to steal The Hunger Games’ record for biggest midnight opening for a non-sequel?

Alas, they were not. The star-studded cast brought in an impressive $18.7 million, but were shy of the $19.7 million that The Hunger Games raked in.

Nonetheless, if Liam Hemsworth started gloating to big bro Chris, he got ahead of himself. The Avengers’ ended up pulling in $200.3 million during its opening weekend, making box office history. Not bad, right?
