Does Jermaine Paul Regret Quitting His Job With Alicia Keys? The Voice Finalist Tells All! – Exclusive
The four remaining contestants from The Voice Season 2 hit the stage at Universal Studios in Hollywood on Thursday, May 3, 2012 to perform for their fans, and Wetpaint Entertainment was there to catch up with them, just days before the finale.
For former Alicia Keys backup singer Jermaine Paul, the stakes could not be higher. But is this powerhouse vocalist ready to come out of the shadows and claim victory for Team Blake?
Wetpaint Entertainment: How many hours did you sleep last night?
Jermaine Paul: I got about three and a half hours in. I feel energized. I’m excited. I’m looking forward to Monday. I’m hoping I can get one day of sleep so I can rest my voice because I usually don’t ever go hoarse singing, I go hoarse when I don’t have enough sleep.
So I’m looking to hopefully get some sleep, but right now, we’re preparing for iTunes, we’re preparing for the show. We’re getting in prep mode and you’ve got to do everything possible to keep moving, and the excitement of it all is my adrenaline.
What is your strategy for Monday?
The strategy for Monday is just to leave my heart on the stage like I do every week. I definitely want to bring some soul into it, and I definitely want to take it back home, where it all started.
You left a job with Alicia Keys to pursue this. Looking back, was it worth it?
You know, there’s always that possibility of going home when you hit the stage, and you approach every song the same way, like it could be your last. If I could do it all again, I would do the same thing. I’m happy to have made the choice I made, and I’m hoping I can see it all the way through.
Do you think Alicia would take you back, if you wanted to return?
Alicia’s got love for me, man. She’s got love for me. But just like Coach Blake [Shelton] says and Adam [Levine] says, she wants to see me move forward as a solo artist, also.
