Grey’s Anatomy Season 8 Finale Death: Did Jesse Williams Just Say It Is an Original Cast Member?

The question on every Grey's Anatomy fan's mind is Who is going to die in the Season 8 finale (Episode 24, "Flight")? We had heard that some cast members are safe, but Shonda Rhimes has suggested that might not actually be true, so we're back to square one when it comes to guessing who is going to go. Fortunately — or perhaps unfortunately, given what it suggests — Jesse Williams (Jackson Avery) recently made a statement that hints at who may be leaving the show forever.

"Even though we sort of knew it was coming, because we'd heard about negotiations or whatever, it was still tough," Jesse told Zap2it, adding that "people were bawling at the table read."

We already knew the finale is sad, but what we find notable about this quote is that the cast "sort of knew" the death was coming because they'd heard about "negotiations." To us, that suggests that the death may be one of the original cast members — Patrick Dempsey(Derek Shepherd), Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey), Justin Chambers (Alex Karev), Cristina Yang(Sandra Oh), and James Pickens Jr.(Richard Webber) — since their contracts end this season, and they've all been in negotiations about whether or not they're coming back.

It is definitely possible that one of the original cast members decided not to renew his or her contract for any number of reasons, and Shonda decided to end the character's story with a bang. On the other hand, it's possible that a non-original cast member was also in negotiations for some other reason, and that's what Jesse is hinting at.

What do you make of this clue? Do you think it means one of the originals is out? If so, does that make you more or less worried? Let us know in the comments!
