Hunger Games News! Toy Story 3 Scribe Tapped to Rewrite Script
Coming off the meteoric success of The Hunger Games, details about the franchise's second entry, Catching Fire, are still streaming in — and after Lionsgate announced that director Francis Lawrence would be taking the helm from Gary Ross for Catching Fire, there's a new wrinkle to the story: The studio has reportedly tapped a top-tier scribe to give the script a rewrite before production begins.
The man behind the curtain? Lionsgate is rumored to have chosen Michael Arndt, the screenwriter responsible for several wildly successful movies — including Toy Story 3 and Little Miss Sunshine, for which Arndt nabbed an Oscar. (No big deal or anything.) The first draft of the project was written by Simon Beaufoy, who penned the script for Slumdog Millionaire — and now it sounds like Lionsgate has recruited a different Oscar winner for the job.
The Hollywood Reporter explains that scheduling with Arndt may be tough: "The sequel is barreling toward a late-summer production start. While Lionsgate doesn’t yet have a deal with Arndt, if he signs on, he will have to work double-time to get the script ready due to a squeezed schedule caused by star Jennifer Lawrence's commitment to Fox’s X-Men: First Class sequel.”
Either way, it sounds like Lionsgate will have some top-level talent involved in the project — which is all we need to know to feel good about the upcoming sequel!
