SallyAnn Salsano on Tanisha Gets Married: “There Is No Shortage of Popping Off” – Exclusive
SallyAnn Salsano, the brains behind some of reality TV’s biggest hits (Jersey Shore, Design Star, and Tool Academy), is at it again with tonight’s debut of Tanisha Gets Married (Monday, May 7 at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Oxygen). Tanisha is perhaps the most famous breakout star from Oxygen’s Bad Girls Club series, and SallyAnn knew from experience that her upcoming nuptials would make great TV.
In an exclusive interview with Wetpaint Entertainment, SallyAnn told us how this new show will be different from all the other wedding-focused shows on the air, and just how much “popping off” Tanisha does throughout the series.
Wetpaint Entertainment: Why did you choose Tanisha as the focus of your newest show? SallyAnn Salsano: To me it’s a no-brainer, I have to tell you. I am a huge fan of the Bad Girls Club and I have never missed an episode. I don’t produce that show, but I watch it as if it’s my job. I’ve done some wedding shows, like Trista and Ryan’s Wedding, Extreme Makeover: Wedding Edition. I‘ve done a lot of the calm, romantic fairytale weddings and in some sick way, this is Tanisha’s version of a fairytale wedding. But when you think “wedding show” and you think romance and you think love, this is not what you’re going to think of. It’s not a typical wedding show.
How would you say it’s different from others? It is an emotional rollercoaster. I would not necessarily say that Tanisha’s a bridezilla, I would say that she’s just a Bad Girl getting married. Everything that you saw on the show, how she gets into it with another girl, gets into it with someone else, all that just seems to be focused on the homefront this time.
Will we get to see her “pop off” a lot? Both behind the cameras and in front of it. Popping off seems to be something that we’re very familiar with. There’s no shortage of popping off on this show. I gotta tell you, I completely fell in love with her. I actually think one of the reasons why Tanisha’s a star is because at the core, she’s a really great girl. She’s a really nice girl, family is really important to her, she has a father who’s not well and we both share that in common. And she goes and visits that dad religiously and her mom works. She always wants to make sure there’s food in the house, she’s got a younger brother, and she tries to help him out. In the end, Tanisha is a girl, she speaks her mind. Where most of us will just keep quiet and go along for the ride, not Tanisha. If you so much as look at her crazy, it’s off.
Do you see her marriage lasting? Yeah, I can’t imagine it not. The thing with Tanisha, she’s just a hot and cold person. You get mad at someone, normally you’re like, “Okay, I’m a little upset, whatever.” Tanisha takes it to the whole other level, it’s like War of the Roses and then ten seconds later, it’s like cuddle time.
She and her future husband have a good relationship? Yeah, I mean it’s different from a relationship that I’m in, but for her it works.
Tune in for the premiere of Tanisha Gets Married tonight, May 7, at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Oxygen.
