Bones Exec on Emily Deschanel’s Pregnancy: “A Happy, Happy Bit of News”

Remember when Angela (Michaela Conlin) and Hodgins (TJ Thyne) popped out Baby Michael and everyone was super excited? Little did the Bones execs know that Emily Deschanel would get pregnant for real and they'd need to write her baby bump into the show, too. So, it begs the question: If Hart Hanson and his minions could go back in time, would they have bothered knocking up Angela?

"We like to think of it as, 'It was really good practice for real life,' Writing Executive Producer Carla Kettner tells Assignment X. "[Deschanel’s pregnancy] was such a happy, happy bit of news for us all that we didn’t think twice. And she looks gorgeous. She looked unbelievable." Emily gave birth to her son Henry in September 2011, while Brennan and
Booth (David Boreanaz) welcomed Baby Christine just this spring in Season 7, Episode 7 "The Prisoner in the Pipe."

Now that B&B have brought their genius spawn into the world, what's next? "We can expect to see a lot of people who care deeply about each other, trying to come to terms with the new state of affairs," Carla teases.

So, what other tricks does this sharp-witted writer have up her sleeves? Carla promises that the Jeffersonian's squintern league will continue to rotate in and out of season eight, and explains, "We love them all, so we can’t [choose only one]."

Meanwhile, fans can expect many more seasons of Bones to come –– at least according to Carla. "We’re also having fun making the show, so as long as people are having fun watching it, I’m good," she says as we high five ourselves.
