James told MTV that he was shocked at Skylar’s departure last week. And he knows all too well how she feels! A fan favorite from last year’s Idol, James’ elimination during the Top 4 surprised many fans.
“I’m disappointed,” he said. “She was my pick to win... She actually has a stage presence. She puts on a show. That’s what I try to do as much as possible, that’s what I evoke, and that’s what inspires me.”
James also respects Skylar’s devotion to the country music genre. “She loves Miranda, she loves Reba, and she loves Jason Aldean, and that’s perfect for her. That’s her audience that she’s aiming at, and that’s the kind of music I could see her making,” he said.
Indeed, our girl Skylar has big plans to move to Nashville and give it a go, and she’s received another major Idol alum’s blessing: Carrie Underwood reportedly encouraged her by saying that the country music world already has open arms for Skylar Laine.
