Breaking Down the Mad Men Season 5, Episode 9 Preview: What Happens In the Episode?
TheMad Men cast and crew aren't exactly forthcoming with the spoilers, so we have to fight for every scrap of info we can get about the upcoming episodes.
Fortunately, we do have the previews to help us out (you can watch the preview for Season 5, Episode 9: “Dark Shadows” here). We've taken a close look at what's going on in the preview, and here's what we can glean about what's going down this week:
Betty's Back: And still looking chubby. She also seems to be at odds with Henry, who sounds annoyed as he says to her, "I can't sit here all day."
Megan gets snappy: "Just do what you're told!" Megan snaps. Is she angry, or auditioning for a part? It doesn't really sound like Megan's normal self, so we'll guess that latter.
Pete's bliss: First, we see Pete lying on a couch, looking blissful. He seems less happy when, in a later clip set in his office, he tells someone they "can't be here." Hmmm … more about his affair with Beth, perhaps?
Roger is needed: Bert Cooper tells Roger that something "requires [his] finesse." Anything that makes Roger feel needed is probably good right now. Later, we see Roger on the phone saying he wants to have dinner with someone. Related?
Don's questions: "Are you kidding me?" Don asks a woman. It's hard to tell if he's angry, or excited.
Empty promises: Harry complains about "a lot of empty promises," and Peggy asks, incredulous, "what were you promised?" It sounds like something happens that upsets the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce employees. We wonder if it's related to the thing that requires Roger's special touch?
Who's hit next: In what looks like a meeting, probably with the creative team — Ginsberg is there — Don says, "you wonder who's going to get hit next."
Something to talk about: "It's something to talk about," Joan says to someone in the office, sounding authoritative.
If we had to take a guess, we'd say the hints at office drama might mean someone well-liked or important is getting fired. That's the kind of thing that Joan would want to talk about, Roger's finesse would be useful for, and Don would want to reassure his team over.
Of course, it's always hard to tell with AMC's promos! What do you think it all means?
