President Obama Supports Same-sex Marriage: Glee Stars Respond on Twitter

Over its past three years of existence, the TV show Glee has never shied away from addressing issues around homosexuality. Quite a few of its characters are gay, and viewers have watched each story take a different path: sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes inspiring, sometimes a little of both.

So when President Barack Obama announced in a May 9 interview with ABC News that he now supports marriage between same-sex couples many of the cast and crew of Glee quickly tweeted their reactions to the news.

All were very enthusiastic in tone, and each one voiced their support of the President’s decision.

Grant Gustin (Sebastian) tweeted an excited, “YES, OBAMZZ!!!” He then shared a link to an article about Obama’s announcement, adding, “You, sir..are the man.

Chris Colfer (Kurt) retweeted @TheEllenShow’s “Thank you President @BarackObama for your beautiful and brave words. I'm overwhelmed,” and added his own, “I second! ”

Glee writer Matthew Hodgson, who penned Santana’s (Naya Rivera) difficult coming out storyline in “I Kissed a Girl,” tweeted, “Well done, Mr. President. Well done. #Obama2012

Jane Lynch (Sue) tweeted, “Pretty darn happy today. Thanks Mr President, for supporting the dignity of my family and so many others!

Dianna Agron (Quinn) retweeted President Obama’s quote, “Same-sex couples should be able to get married,” then added, “Open our hearts & minds! Proud of Obama for speaking up.

Seconds later, she tweeted simply, “Love is love
