On May 9, President Barack Obama officially announced that he now supports same-sex marriage. Members of the Glee cast tweeted their enthusiastic support of the decision, but not everyone was so happy about the President’s new view.
Sarah Palin’s daughter is none too pleased with the President's recent reversal in views — and she things Glee deserves part of the blame.
Here’s how it works: In his May 9 speech, Obama attributes conversations with his wife and daughters as contributing the “evolution” which led him to believe that marriage between same-sex couples should be legal.
You see, his teenage daughters Malia and Sasha don’t seem to see gay couples any differently than straight couples, and Obama says that view is “the kind of thing that prompts a change in perspective.”
Bristol’s not having any of it. In a May 10 blog entry, she says the President made “a massive change in a policy position that could affect the entire nation after consulting with his teenage daughters.”
She concludes, “In this case, it would’ve been nice if the President would’ve been an actual leader and helped shape their thoughts instead of merely reflecting what many teenagers think after one too many episodes of Glee.”
Her implication is clear. Watching too many episodes of Glee makes teenagers want to support gay rights.
Overall, that leaves us with two questions. First, do you agree with Bristol’s assessment: Has watching Glee made you take on more liberal political views? Secondly, if you think it has: Is that something we, like Bristol, should feel concerned about?
