Does Mad Men’s Jessica Paré Deserve a Lead Actress Emmy Nomination?

According to Gold Derby, rumor has it that AMC will be submitting Mad Men’s Jessica Paré (Megan Draper) in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama category for this year’s Emmy nominations. Cue: Mad Men fans going berserk.

As fans debate the merits of Jessica as an actress, arguing for and against Jessica's worthiness to compete against Elisabeth Moss (who plays Mad Men’s beloved Peggy Olson) in the same category, we find ourselves on the fence.

On one hand, it’s hard to deny the fact that Jessica’s character has dominated Mad Men Season 5, taking up more screen time and story-centric plot lines than Elisabeth. That should automatically qualify her for Lead Actress recognition.

But on the other hand, many fans feel that Jessica isn’t as strong of an actress as Elisabeth or Christina Hendricks (Joan Harris). Does she play Megan as child-like, adorable, cutesy, and sweet because that’s who Megan is? Or is Megan written as a stronger character, as some of her actions (standing up to Don, going after what she wants) suggest?

We should point out that, despite winning Best Drama for four years straight, Mad Men has never won an Emmy in any acting category.

Tell us if you think Jessica Paré deserves the Lead Actress Emmy nomination alongside Elisabeth Moss in our poll below.
