NBC Cancels Awake and Harry’s Law, Renews The Office, Parks & Recreation, Whitney, Up All Night
This is the problem with networks ordering intricate Lost-like shows — they ask fans to invest time and energy into the stories, then pull the rug out from under them. They've done it so many times, people get gun shy and decide not to risk it.
It happened again with NBC's Awake. Jason Isaacs' mind-bending series has been canceled ... but Whitney is coming back. Yes, that's officially a sign of the Apocalypse. (Happening right on time, Mayans!)
In addition to Awake, the Washington Post said NBC has also canceled Bent, Best Friends Forever, Are You There, Chelsea? and Harry’s Law.
In happier news, NBC officially renewed Parks and Recreation, Up all Night, and The Office, although Mindy Kaling, Rainn Wilson and Paul Lieberstein are all leaving The Office for other shows. 30 Rock and Community have already been picked up for 13 episode renewals. Parenthood is also coming back for a fourth season.
And, of course, Whitney is coming back, even though it was a critical punching bag for its first season. Maybe it'll come back fighting, packing its own comedic punches.
